Although we had hoped for a full approval of the Oil and Gas Moratorium at Tuesday’s hearing, we understand that the Commissioners needed more time for community input on this important matter. Please know that we stand united against neighborhood fracking. We are confident that the Commissioners fully understand the dangers of fracking so close to (and under) homes, schools, and open space. Once the moratorium is in place, please use this time to pass stricter regulations on future fossil fuel extraction so that our air quality, health, safety, wildlife, climate, homes and schools are better protected. As residents of/near Arapahoe County and recreationists of Aurora Reservoir, we are deeply concerned about the permanent consequences of Citivas’ proposed large-scale oil & gas development plan. Please do everything in your power to protect our community, we are counting on you.
During the moratorium we hope that you:
1. Regulatory Review and Updates: Revisit existing regulations and policies to ensure they adequately protect our environment and citizens, and implement necessary updates based on the findings of the assessments.
2. Public Consultation: Engage with the community through public forums and consultations to gather valuable input and feedback on the future of oil and gas activities in our county.
3. Public Health Evaluations: Collaborate with public health experts to assess the potential effects of oil and gas extraction on the health of our residents, particularly those living in close proximity to extraction sites.
4. Third Party Air monitoring: All residents who live near these operations deserve to know what is in their air and the data needs to be available.
